BAKKELY SAUNA AND GUEST ROOM

2019

Ærø, Denmark

Extension to family country house on the island of Ærø. The client wanted a cross-functional building: a sauna, a guest room, an elevated terrace and a framework for the plants and trees. The building is placed in one of the most fertile corners of the site between apple trees and roses, therefore the building had to make space nature as well as people.

A big espalier frames the single room from the outside. Whilst on the inside, the sauna benches easily convert to a double bed. The terrace on top is connected to the existing building via a small bridge.
